Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee
Role of the Committee
The duties of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee are to:
- perform fact-finding tasks as requested by the city pertaining to parks and recreation
- act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in matters pertaining to parks and recreation, and to cooperate with other governmental agencies and civic groups in the advancement and cooperation of sound park and recreation planning and programming;
- recommend policies on recreation services to the City Council
- have periodic inventories made of recreation services that exist or may be needed and interpret the needs of the public to the City Council.
Overview
- Normal meeting day/time: Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6pm
- Expected time commitment: Approximately 45 hours per year. Typically, 9-10 meetings per year, about 1 hour in length and less than 1 hour of preparation work. Occasional involvement in special projects, events, research, community engagement, and park stewardship.
- Length of Appointment: 2 Years
- Committee Seats Available: 5
- Priority by Ward: Equal ward representation is required under ordinance.

Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee was recently involved in the following projects/items:
- Supported the development of a new parks system plan
- Reviewed designs for Albert Park, Officer Scott Memorial, and 150 Thompson Park
- Hosted park openings at Kennedy and Marthaler parks
