The building permits and inspections staff is responsible for the application and enforcement of building codes and related ordinances regulating construction, alterations, maintenance, and the use of buildings within the city.
The building department reviews plans and construction work for building, plumbing, mechanical, sewer and sign permit applications to ensure compliance with city ordinances and state building and fire codes. Electrical permits are also administered through the city.
Permit applications are accepted during normal business hours and will be processed in the order received. Permits not requiring plan review are typically processed within 3 business days. Applications requiring plan review typically require 1-3 week lead time after all required information is received.
Security alarm systems do not require a permit and are not required to be registered with the city. After repeated false alarms within a set time period, false alarm fees may apply. With further questions, call the Police Department administration office at 651-552-4200.
