Sports Center & Harmon Park Master Plan Updates
In the fall of 2011, the City Council directed staff to update the master plans for the Sports Complex and Harmon Park. Staff hired SRF Consulting Group, Inc. to facilitate the plan updates. Plans for both parks incorporate new land that was not included in the original plans. Public meetings were held for both parks, as well a public online questionnaire. Meetings were held with the Parks and Recreation Committee as well as the major user groups, ISD 197 and the West St Paul Youth Athletics Association. All the information gathered was used to develop the new draft master plans. Those plans will be presented to the City Council for further refinement and approval.
In the Summer of 2013, the undeveloped park land at the Sports Complex underwent a major development project adding a new play area, additional parking, a picnic shelter and walk trails. The project followed the recommendation of the updated Master Plan.
In early 2015 Harmon Park reconstruction began. The project is expected to be complete in August of 2015, though the ball fields will not be utilized until Spring 2016 to allow the new turf to establish. Through a partnership with ISD 197, school property will be incorporated into the redevelopment project.
